Soundproof Doors & Seals

Soundproof Doors & Seals

The door is usually the weakest link in a treated wall — engineered high-STC door sets plus perimeter seals, sweeps and drop-seals that close the gaps sound uses, fitted and checked for an airtight result.

You can build a perfect wall and still hear everything — because the door is usually the weakest link. A standard internal door is light, hollow and surrounded by air gaps that sound pours straight through. Soundproof Ghana fits engineered high-STC door sets and full perimeter seals so the doorway stops undermining the room. Book a free noise assessment: +233 20 531 3333.

What Soundproof Doors & Seals Actually Are

A soundproof doorway is two things working together: a door with enough mass and construction to block sound, and a sealing system that closes every gap around it. Both matter, because sound behaves exactly like water — it finds and floods through the smallest opening. A standard hollow internal door, with an undercut gap at the floor and air leaks around the frame, can undo the benefit of an expensive wall entirely. Even a 1% gap around the perimeter can cost around 10 dB, which is enough to make the difference between private and clearly overheard.

That is why doors are so often the limiting factor. You can raise a wall to a high STC, but the room is only ever as quiet as its weakest path — and in most rooms, that path is the door. Treating the door set and its seals to match the wall is what turns a good wall into a genuinely private room.

When to Specify Soundproof Doors & Seals

Specify this service wherever a doorway is letting sound in or out of a space that needs privacy or protection. The common cases across Accra, Tema and Kumasi include boardrooms and private offices where confidential discussion must not carry to the corridor; clinic and consulting rooms where speech privacy is an ethical and, under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), a legal duty; recording and podcast studios where the control-room and booth doors must not leak; home cinemas and media rooms; bedrooms opening onto a noisy hallway or living area; and any room where you have already soundproofed the walls but the door is now the obvious weak point.

It is also the most cost-effective single upgrade in many situations — a door and its seals are a smaller, faster job than rebuilding a wall, and often deliver the largest audible improvement precisely because the door was the leak.

The Method — Which Pillars We Use

A soundproof doorway relies on Mass, Damping and, above all, sealing to eliminate flanking around the door.

Hardware and seals are chosen for durability in Ghana’s humid climate, and where timber elements are involved we specify termite- and moisture-resistant stock so the doorway stays sound and airtight over years, not months.

Typical Result Ranges

A standard hollow internal door with normal gaps offers very little blocking — speech passes through it almost freely. Upgrading the existing door with added mass and a full perimeter and threshold sealing system produces a clear, immediately audible improvement in privacy at modest cost. A properly specified and precisely fitted engineered acoustic door set reaches a substantially higher, dependable STC suitable for studios, cinemas, boardrooms and clinics. In every case the achievable result depends as much on the fit and the seal as on the door — which is why we treat installation, not just specification, as part of the job.

Honest Boundaries

We will never promise a doorway makes a room “completely silent.” A door is one path among several, and the room’s overall result also depends on the walls, floor, ceiling and any windows. A high-performance door in a weak wall — or a great door fitted with sloppy seals — will not deliver its rating; the assembly has to be balanced and the seals have to compress evenly. Where your target genuinely requires a full engineered door set rather than an upgrade, we will say so; and where an upgrade will get you most of the way for far less, we will say that too, rather than default to the priciest option.

Doors and seals are almost always fitted alongside the wider blocking work so no single weak path is left open:
